Our history


Central Borne is born

Francesc Arqués i Rovira (1899) opens a food products wholesaler establishment in Born market, Barcelona’s commercial epicenter. .

1970 - 1971

New shops

At the same time as the shop in Born Market is being expanded, we open a second Central Borne establishment in Hospitalet de Llobregat’s Collblanc Market. Soon afterwards, Mercabarna takes over from Born as Barcelona’s central market, which is where we open a third shop. 


Centralized storage facility

We then open a new establishment in Esplugues de Llobregat, which apart from a shop also has a cash&carry and a storage facility which serves all our premises. 


Food service industry

We create a commercial department focused on distribution in the food service industry, and the first Christmas hamper campaign takes place.

1992 - 1997

New premises and a new storage facility

We open two Central Borne shops in Barcelona Airport’s Terminal 2. In need of more space, we move the storage facility to Hospitalet de Llobregat. First freezer installation.


Integrated Service

We start to offer the Integrated Service by supplying Vall d’Hebron Hospital. 


50th Anniversary

The year Central Borne celebrates its 50th anniversary, we are awarded the ISO 9001 certification, an international quality standard benchmark.

2000 - 2006

Focus on distribution

We close the last cash&carry and decide to focus exclusively on distribution. We start transporting products in multi-temperature lorries and we consolidate the integrated service model with new clients, including Xanascat, Tibidabo and Barcelona Zoo.


Logistics platform

We change to a distribution model with a logistics platform, which leads to us leaving the Hospitalet de Llobregat storage facility. At the same time, we open the office in the Esplugues de Llobregat’s Ilumina Building.
