Our
story

1949

Central Borne is founded

Francesc Arqués i Rovira (1899) opens a wholesale food store at the Born market, then the epicenter of trade in Barcelona.

1970 - 1971

New stores

As the store located at the Born market expanded, we opened a second Central Borne location at the Collblanc Market in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Shortly after, Mercabarna took over from El Born as Barcelona’s central wholesale market, and we set up there with a third store.

1974​

Centralized warehouse

We open a new location in Esplugues de Llobregat, which—besides a store—also includes a cash & carry and a warehouse that serves all our sites.

1991

Institutions and HORECA

We create a sales department focused on distribution for the institutional catering and HORECA sector. Our first Christmas hamper campaign is launched.

1992 - 1997

New openings and a new warehouse

We open two Central Borne stores in Terminal 2 of Barcelona Airport. As we needed more space, we move the warehouse to L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. The first freezer is installed.

1998

Comprehensive Service

We begin offering the Comprehensive Service by supplying Vall d’Hebron Hospital.

1999

50th anniversary

In the year we celebrated Central Borne’s 50th anniversary, we obtained ISO 9001 certification, an international quality benchmark.

2000 - 2006

Focus on distribution

We close our last cash & carry and focus exclusively on distribution. We begin transporting products with multi-temperature trucks and consolidate our Comprehensive Service model with clients such as Xanascat, Tibidabo and Barcelona Zoo.

2016

Logistics platform

We shift to a distribution model with a logistics platform, which is why we leave the warehouse in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. At the same time, we open a new office in the Il·lumina Building in Esplugues de Llobregat.

Although we specialize in distribution in Catalonia, we have clients with delivery points in other autonomous communities such as Aragon and the Valencian Community.
